Get Checked Omaha | Women’s Fund of Omaha
“How comfortable are you talking about sex?”
I had been a fan of the Women’s Fund of Omaha for years. Their staff could teach a masterclass on policy and how to get things done. Get Checked Omaha is just one of their programs but it’s changed the lives of youth across Omaha. If you’ve ever been in a store or bar or really any place in Omaha that has a box of condoms for the taking, thank Get Checked Omaha. The initiative promotes sexual health, STI testing and treatment, and reducing stigma in the community. For the summer of 2019, I worked as an intern for the Get Checked Omaha initiative. When I wasn’t hitting the pavement doing outreach at events, I was cranking out content for their social media, doing everything from art direction, photography, copy-writing, graphic design and animation. And I got really comfortable talking about sex.

“Uh, so the stickers hit a million views.”
Creating GIFs and Instagram stickers had never been in the job description of my multimedia internship in my university’s communications office. A leg injury had relegated me to my desk but I was determined to stay busy. One of my design inspirations and mentors had done some Instagram stickers for L’Oreal for Pride Month. I decided to try my own hand at making stickers and GIFs. Turns out school pride is a little more rampant than I thought. We racked up more than a million views shortly after I started putting the stickers and GIFs out.
